full speed ahead and a little holiday
Juli 31st, 2008
On 19th of July it was the day to start for the German Championchips at St. Märgen 2008 and as well as every other rider I wanted to reach one of the best results for this season. Although the fever had just been over for some days but that had to be out of my mind.
We started for the last race of the day at 16:45 and one could be glad to see many many visitors along the track to push every rider around the steep course up and down.
And then the bang of the starting-pistol and out of the fourth start-line on the wide meadow with full speed around the first curve just noticing many crashes besides and behind me but not interrupting - finding a fast group and save a bit of power in the slipstream. So I started the first round after a short introduction around the best 20. On the course the rhythm was fine and I solved every obstacle with fun - overtaken riders as well as tricky sections. Three rounds were at best and a place among the best 20 was within reach. But then my power stopped my body was empty, as feared the fever had cost too much energy and one can’t save within a Cross Country Race the whole time … I draged myself through the last rounds and came in at place 32 - not a bad result within the first year in the U23-category but also not the good one I’m running for all the time.
Much would have been possible without this lack of power but I had to deal with it
After that we used the following three weeks for a little holiday - first “just” one day of the popular Jazzfestival at Wiesen - not Weisen
- with 12 hours of hot music non stop and then we needed a rest of at the Hungarian side of the Neusiedler See. Of course with some tours to bike.
On the way back home I checked the status at Kirchdorf where my Co-Sponsor Bike-Shop-Lang is set - many thanks to them again for new bottles, a new bottom bracket and of course my Simplon raceframe that has never coursed any bad result or anger so far.
To split the long cartravel we used the chance for a guided biketour around the area - that was really fantastic - thanks to Benedikt and good luck for all targets to solve.
So I’m finally happy back home and train -next to the whole set of forms to be filled for my study- for the next Hessencuprace at Haiger …
